Questions
1.
Can you explain what DeFi is and outline its main use cases across payments, lending, trading, insurance, asset management and other areas?
2.
Can you explain how DeFi lending works vs traditional lending? I know that lending is the core use case.
3.
How do you assess yields from providing liquidity on decentralised lending platforms? Where do you think these yields will head as the industry evolves and competition heats up?
4.
Do you think yields from providing liquidity will compress? How do you assess the trajectory of yields in three, five and 10 years? I know yields are very specific to each asset, and it will be a slow build.
5.
Can you outline how AMM [automated market makers] replace order books? To what extent do you think DEXs [decentralised exchanges] threaten centralised exchanges? How much more efficient is a DEX in cost and speed?
6.
Could you comment on institutional adoption of DeFi? How quickly and to what extent are institutions participating? How is the lack of know-your-customer and anti-money laundering processes within DeFi being addressed? I know this has been a major challenge for adoption.
7.
What’s your outlook on institutional adoption, given you mentioned MetaMask’s institutional offering? What do you think the adoption rate will be?
8.
How do you think DeFi could negatively impact Coinbase? What is its approach to DeFi? I know Coinbase has invested in DeFi, but the company named it as a risk in its 2021 Form S-1.
9.
Do you think Coinbase will follow Binance and create something similar to Binance Smart Chain, or does being a public company under more regulatory scrutiny constrain it? How do you think this would play out?
10.
Could you compare Ethereum to protocols such as Solana, Polkadot and Cardano? Why do you think Ethereum will remain the de facto standard for DeFi? There are efforts by Square CEO Jack Dorsey and the bitcoin community to push bitcoin into DeFi. How do you think this plays out longer term if Ethereum stops being the de facto standard for DeFi?
11.
Uniswap management recently spoke at the EthCC 4 [Ethereum Community Conference 4] about bridging DeFi and DEX with the broader consumer fintech world through companies such as Paxos, Fireblocks and Talos. Can you explain what middleware is being provided? How do you expect it to drive longer-term mainstream DeFi and DEX adoption?
